We are seeking a Payroll Specialist to join our HR team on an 18-24 month (fixed term) basis to support the design and delivery of a new payroll system as well as maintaining all current payroll processes for Red Funnel. This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate who will be highly organised and detail-orientated with a deep understanding of payroll compliance regulations as well as sound knowledge and experience of using payroll systems to optimise all payroll processes to ensure accurate and efficient delivery of this function for the organisation. .

Able Seafarer Apprenticeship (Trainee Crew Member)

We have an exciting role awaiting the right candidate who wants the opportunity to learn and train to become a Deck Hand, whom, through their time as an Apprentice will hold all the skills, knowledge and behaviours to work on a wide variety of specialist vessels; primarily Ro-Ro’s, operating in varying marine environments within a port or inland waterways.   The role involves working as part of an existing crew as a trainee for up to 18 months, whilst undergoing specific on the job and specialist training to reach the standard to obtain the relevant qualifications and skills in: Navigation and Seamanship: have proficient navigation skills, including chart plotting, route planning, and the use of navigational equipment. Ship Operations: Carry out ship operations effectively, including cargo handling, anchoring, mooring, and manoeuvring the vessel in different conditions. Watchkeeping: Perform watchkeeping duties, closely monitoring the ship’s position, activities, and safety systems. They will know how to respond to emergencies and ensure the safety of the crew and vessel. Equipment and Machinery Operation: Be knowledgeable about operating and maintaining various ship machinery and equipment, such as engines, pumps, generators, and communication systems. Safety and Emergency Procedures: Be well-versed in maritime safety regulations and emergency procedures, including firefighting, life-saving techniques, and the use of safety equipment. Seamanship and Knot Tying: Have practical seafaring skills, such as knot tying, rope handling, rigging, and general deck maintenance. Environmental Awareness: Understand the importance of environmental protection and sustainability, following best practices to minimise the ship’s impact on marine ecosystems and complying with environmental regulations. Work as part of the existing ferry deck crew and undertake a structured training programme. Learn and become competent with all the duties that a deck hand has to fulfil. Assist with the loading and safe stowage & discharge of vehicles from a ship and shore base. Operate and work with a variety of onboard equipment and machinery. Assist with mooring and departing duties, including winch work and Radio Communications. Obtain a steering certificate. Participate in emergency drills and routine maintenance. Learning all emergency practices and drills. Undertake deck patrols and assist passengers where necessary Ensure the best presentation of all deck areas; Taking a pride in your vessel. Deliver a consistent level of exceptional customer service Qualifications gained through the Apprenticeship:   Qualifications gained: STCW Basic Safety Courses: Personal Survival Techniques, Firefighting and Fire Prevention, Emergency First Aid, Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities STCW, Proficiency in Designated Security Duties , Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats Certification Certificate in Maritime Studies: Able Seafarer (Deck) 39.5 hours per week on a roster pattern | £11.55 per hour
