We're currently looking for an On-Board Services Crew member to join our Passenger Operations team on a part-time maternity cover basis until 31 August 2027.
This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a dedicated onboard team, working in a unique and fast-paced maritime environment. As a member of the ship's crew, you'll play an important role in ensuring the safety, wellbeing and comfort of our passengers whilst helping to deliver a high-quality customer experience throughout every crossing.
Whether you're serving customers in our catering outlets, assisting passengers around the vessel or responding to operational requirements, no two days are the same. You'll be part of a close-knit team operating against one of the most impressive backdrops on the South Coast while gaining valuable maritime skills and experience.

What does the role involve?
As an On Board Services Crew member, your primary responsibility is to help ensure the safety and welfare of passengers throughout their journey whilst supporting the safe and efficient operation of the vessel.
You will also play a key role in delivering excellent customer service across a range of onboard facilities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Promoting a safe environment for passengers throughout their journey.
- Responding to incidents and emergency situations in accordance with company procedures.
- Delivering excellent customer service from the onboard catering and retail outlets.
- Preparing and serving food and beverages to customers.
- Processing payments and handling cash transactions.
- Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and presentation across public areas and outlets.
- Assisting passengers with enquiries and providing journey information.
- Supporting colleagues across different areas of the vessel to ensure a seamless operation.
- Participating in emergency drills, safety duties and operational procedures as required.
As a safety-critical member of the ship's crew, you will receive specialist training and will be expected to respond confidently and professionally in emergency situations.

Training and Development
Successful applicants will receive a comprehensive programme of maritime, safety and operational training, including:
- Level 2 Food Hygiene Safety Certificate
- STCW Personal Survival Techniques
- Fire Awareness and Practical Fire Extinguisher Training
You'll also have access to our Learning Management System, providing a wide range of online learning resources and development opportunities.
Working Pattern
- Part-time maternity cover contract until 31st August 2027.
- Average 19.75 hours per week.
- Worked on a rostered basis, including weekends and Bank Holidays.
- A mixture of early, late and night shifts.
- Shift lengths ranging between 6.25 and 9.25 hours.

Working Environment
- Primarily based aboard Red Funnel's vehicle ferries: Red Falcon, Red Osprey and Red Eagle.
- Shifts predominantly start and finish in Southampton for mainland-based employees, and East Cowes for Isle of Wight-based employees.
- Employees may occasionally be required to work in other areas of the business.
- Flexibility towards shift patterns and operational requirements is essential.
Essential Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be aged 18 or over.
- Be able to travel to and from work for very early starts and late finishes.
- Be willing to obtain and maintain an ENG1 medical certificate (company funded initially).
- Have a good standard of education and numeracy skills.
- Have experience in customer service and ideally a fast-paced catering, retail or hospitality environment.
- Be capable of working under pressure and using initiative to resolve issues effectively.
